Professional Services Consultant



Job Purpose

The UK Professional Services division is looking for Consultant to add to its successful and growing organisation. The opportunity affords successful candidates the opportunity to work with SmartStream’s latest products being responsible for the design, installation, configuration and training necessary to deliver client solutions. You will be responsible the design and delivery of solutions across a client projects simultaneously managing your time effectively to ensure the success of multiple projects. The role will involve a commitment to spend extended periods on client sites as required.


Business Skills required

  • Sound experience in working in the Financial Services industry with a focus on Reconciliations, middle and back office trade process management, exception management, fails management and reference data management for Broker/Dealers, Custodians or Investment Managers.

  • Previous experience working with Generic reconciliation solutions 
  • Previous experience working with any of any product sets in the following areas: Financial Messaging
  • Settlement Accounting, Reference Data Management, Payments Processing, OMS, FX Processin
  • Platforms, Central Matching (Omgeo CTM), GSTPA (We know it is defunct – but would like to have people who have worked on it) 
  • Advanced knowledge of Financial Institutions business requirements and business practices
  • Ability to assist with functional requirements and convert those requirements into a technical design using the TLM product set 
  • Experienced Project Management skill set; experience in contribution in complex and critical projects on time and on budget. Management of cross cultural teams and ability to work with on-site/off site teams would be an advantage. 
  • A good working knowledge of the following business areas:  
    • Front and Back Office Experience. 
    • International Payments Area Experience. 
    • Understanding of the Internal Accounts Reconciliation Procedure. 
    • S.W.I.F.T
    • ISITC Standards 
    • FIX standards 
    • Processing requirements for RVP/FOP/Derivatives, Money Markets, Equities, Fixed Income and Unit Trust / Mutual Fund Trades 
    • Cancel/Amend Processing and its impact on downstream systems 
    • Knowledge of working procedures in operations 
    • Ability to analyze business process bottlenecks, relationship of the process to the technology environment, impact of automation and ability to perform process re-engineering 


Technical Skills required

    • Competent knowledge of PCs and Window software e.g. MS Office, MS Project etc. 
    • Previous experience or knowledge of the following Operating Systems e.g. UNIX, NT, Windows 
    • Competent knowledge of a RDBMS in particular at least one of Oracle, Sybase & SQL Server 
    • Competent knowledge of SQL 
    • Knowledge of financial messaging 
    • Ability to translate business processes to productized implementations (Hands on with product) 
    • Experience in UML (Use Cases) 
    • Java Programming ability for use in producing custom controls 

General Skills required 

    • Ability to escalate and resolve client process inefficiencies to management 
    • Organizational skills to make procedural decisions and ensure that deadlines are met 
    • Analytical skills to analyze data, complete research, diagnose and solve business and technical problems 
    • Oral communication skills to clearly explain complicated business concepts (in English) 
    • The ability to quickly and fully understand and impart complex business theories to the customer 
    • Must be able to project a confident and professional image at all times when dealing with customers and manage their expectations 
    • Good level of presentation skills that displays both confidence and professionalism to the customer 
    • Willingness to work on clients sites around the UK and travel as necessary 
    • Competent knowledge of the process to be followed for a Software Implementation. 
    • Experience with a 3rd party reporting tools e.g. B.I. Query, Crystal Reports, Business Objects, Actuate 



  • University Degree OR similar degree with significant computing bias
